Distribution & Logistics Case Study

Manual Handling Instructor Course

images.jpeg

In 2026 our Senior Instructor Jon Simmonds travelled to the ID Logistics Northampton site to deliver our 2 Day Manual Handling Instructor Course. Their Safety & Facilities Manager Greg Reis had come across Osteopathic Solutions from our Course delivery at Staples. Gareth Milner did the pre-Course management by phone and email with Greg Reis.

At the long term, cost effective price of only £1595, ID Logistics qualified 8 of their Managers and Supervisors as Manual Handling Instructors. We omitted Manual Handling Risk Assessment at their request with 100% Course focus on Instructor qualification. The Course worked out at only £199 per attendee. Like with all Instructor Course bookings Osteopathic Solutions included our Manual Handling Training Videos Box-Set. ID Logistics received our bespoke Distribution & Logistics Manual Handling Training Videos Box-Set free of charge.

Since 2010, Osteopathic Solutions has delivered onsite Programmes for DHL Supply Chain, Tradeteam, NHS Supply Chain, AO Logistics, Restore Harrow Green, the British Association of Removers, Arla National Distribution Centre etc.

The world of Distribution and Logistics may not always consist of heavy and awkward tasks, like many Manufacturing environments, and inanimate loads may only be of a moderate weight; but employees still need to understand how they can use their body to minimise the strain that the repetitive tasks can cause. Without task specific training, humans simply do NOT know how to prevent musculoskeletal strain. As a practising Osteopath our Instructor Jon Simmonds gave the attendees the base knowledge they needed to understand the importance of their workforce training, as well as the technical skills to engage people and change their habits to Optimal Manual Handling techniques, maximising body power and minimising body strain. Supporting ID Logistics to target-zero RIDDOR reports and Injury Claims.

Across the UK, even in 2026, there are too many 'cut corners' Training Providers who will sell you a 1 Day Course for training Instructors. Understanding Manual Handling is certainly not Rocket Science, but a minimum of 2 full days is needed for Managers and Supervisors to understand Optimal Manual Handling techniques and how to effectively train them on to people, in a way that inspires them to lift, carry, put down, push, pull and team handle loads using the principles of basic optimal biomechanics. With each task demonstrated by Jon Simmonds, he imparted the specifics of grip, body position and body use for each of the tasks across the warehouse floor.

Each attendee was assessed throughout the 2 Days of practical across the warehouse floor, and formally in the end of Course 20-minute Practical Assessment. With Jon Simmonds' experience of over 10 years across all types of working environment, all attendees passed the Course with flying colours, and were certificated to deliver the ID Logistics bespoke Manual Handling Programme. Over the coming months and years, if an attendee had a break from delivering training, they would be able to watch the Distribution & Logistics Video (included in the Course cost) to refresh their Optimal technique teaching. They could also anytime speak to Gareth Milner and Jon Simmonds to answer any questions. This was at no cost to ID Logistics.
