ROBERT SMITH BSc (Hons) Ost, EDINBURGH
Manual Handling Training
Consultant & Registered Osteopath
Robert joined us in 2014 and is our Edinburgh based Manual Handling Training and Risk Assessment Consultant. Please view Robert's client testimonials below. Outside of Osteopathic Solutions Robert runs his own private Osteopathy practice in Edinburgh. Away from work Robert enjoys spending time with his two young sons. This keeps him fit, supple and teaches him a lot about how a healthy body should work.
'' As an Occupational Osteopath, I have been treating the ill effects of poor workplace behaviour, design, practice and implementation for over 15 years.
Working with Osteopathic Solutions has given me the chance to affect these issues up front. A detailed knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and musculoskeletal health allows me, and our other trainers, to advise and train to a higher and more bespoke standard than other providers.
I enjoy working for Osteopathic Solutions because we don't just regurgitate the HSE manual. We teach manual handling methods that are the most biomechanically efficient. ''
The manual handling course was perfect for what I needed. We did lots of practical in the hangar showing us the correct posture and grips for bag handling which is what we do most of. We were also shown how to teach squat and lunge lifting, pushing and pulling; teaching us where the weight should come from e.g. legs and hips, not back. I feel I got a lot out of this course and feel I can show my team better handling to save their back and shoulders which is what my team seem to hurt the most.

Parks & Grounds Maintenance & Cemetaries Teams in November 2018
Thank you to Osteopathic Solutions for delivering the manual handling training. It was well received and Rishi Patel pitched it at the right level for the operatives. I think being a practising Osteopath meant that he was taken a lot more seriously than if he was someone who wasn’t working in this profession.
Martin Wates, Horticultural Services Manager
Gravesham Borough Council
I must say my team and I were extremely impressed and satisfied with the training Robert Smith delivered. It was tailored to meet our unique requirements and everyone gained something from it. I have no doubt that if our staff follow the guidance provided they will reduce the chances of injuring themselves in their day to day tasking.
